The fresco by Giuseppe Rossi in the cupola of the Church of the Visitation in the monastery of Pažaislis, Kaunas, Lithuania. The monastery was founded in 1664 by the Pac family, one of the most influential noble families in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania during the era of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth, for the Camaldolese Order. Two St John knights can be seen (marked by the red fleurs-de-lis) along with other saints in the fresco. Also, in the picture of the planned by Pietro Puttini in 1688, but never accomplished, floor of the church the Maltese cross is visible in the centre. These motifs of the Order of St John appeared here, few thousand kilometers from Malta, in the 17th century, probably, because of a funder of the church building ― Kazimierz Michael Pac, Great Notary of Lithuania, Court Marshal of Lithuania, and, most importantly — the Knight of the Order of St John or the order of Malta; he visited Malta in 1677, learned soldiering there, returned home 1680-81, and in 1685 was appointed as a commander of the Order of Malta in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.
