The medieval windmills at Mandraki Harbor, Rhodes, Greece and Ta' Kola Windmill in Xagħra, Gozo, Malta. Most of windmills in Rhodes and Malta were built by the Order of St John as they were particularly important for the economy of the Order. Almost all the windmills were grain mills, however, the few of them were also used to produce gunpowder.
