The breastplate and the left tasset of the armour suit of Grand Master of the Order of Saint John Alof de Wignacourt, the Grandmaster's Palace and Armoury, Valletta, Malta. The full armour suit weight is around 50 kg, and this breastplate weighs around 11.34 kg; it is one of the heaviest of such kind in the collection of the Palace Armoury and, probably, in Europe. The explanation of so substantial weight is that this suit of armour was used for sapping purposes (sapping is the digging of a covered trench to approach a besieged place thus avoiding enemy's projectiles) and was put on for a very short time, when the wearer was under danger of firing from the defensive walls of the besieged
